Sonic Modeling Attempt: Head by Jetstreamx Sonic Modeling Attempt: Head by Jetstreamx
AFTER MESSING WITH THIS FOR A FEW DAYS, OFF AND ON, I finally have a head. This is like, my third attempt at trying to make this friggen head. A few things to note.

While I HAVE used Blender before, I have never done anything NEAR this detailed. The BEST I've EVER done was a box model of a person.

I'm quite proud of this, granted I've not really done much/any of this before. Anyway, I doubt this is final. I haven't really figured out how to do eyes, so when I find out a better way, I'll redo those. I need to work on the internals for a mouth, make some lips, probably do some more work to his eyebrows, and whatever I decide to do to the head.

Oh, that mouth, I totally drew that on. It helped make it look better in terms of visuals until I've added a real mouth. This is based completely off my own style of Sonic. I wasn't aiming to get it exact to the games. Anyway, my rambling is probably not making much sense. Just know, this is all new to me, and I'm proud of it. :)

Sonic r belong to sega.

I tried D= Going to remake it eventually. I don't think it would work very well with skeleton and face rigging D=

I'm proud of it, yes. But I also want to animate it. This was a big help, though, in gaining an understanding of how to do this stuff, but I think I could do it better. Right now I don't think my eyebrows would function very well for emotion. That and the shape is bugging me a bit.

Well this is actually really nice! I like the way you did the eyes here, at least you have some common sense when you place the highlight at the top of the eye unlike Sega. Also I like the way you placed the gradient between the black and the green in his eyes, very effective.

My only critique would be to make the pupil a little bit bigger and maybe drop the gradient down a bit so that the green is just showing at the bottom to exaggerate the highlight at the top but otherwise awesome work my friend.

I made the pupils in like, 30 seconds in gimp because I wanted to see how it looked with those lovely green iris's of his. I'm probably going to redo them as soon as I figure out how. The pupils are on a separate mesh from the eyeball, and I would like to find a way to put it on the same mesh without having like, a million of them popping up, that way I can have all the reflections match up. Or I could try to build it like an actual eye, but this is cartoonish. Might ruin the effect. Sorry for rambling. I tend to do that.

Easy? ._. It took me two years to figure out Blender just to be able to make this head! Granted I never dedicated two actual years of time and it was really just an off and on thing, it wasn't really easy, but now that I've got a feel for it (finally), it's starting to become a bit easier. I hope that made sense. It also helps that I heavily use the mirror modifier. :)

You'll probably be kicking my butt soon. You have the benefit of not having to learn from scratch :) Unless your teacher's one of those dudes/dudettes who throws something at you and is all like "DO EET!"

That, I must say, came out quite nice! Keep up the hard work!

I got Blender but I seriously gotta learn how to use it myself at some point.

The new interface really helped me. It's simplified and everything's in an organized place. The older versions seemed rather chaotic and confusing. Just keep a look out for any beginner modeling tutorials. I used an older one. It helped a bit, but a lot of stuff I had to figure out on my own because the older version wasn't up to snuff with the changes.

Yeah. The reference I drew really helped out a LOT. What's bad is, after I get the body set up and the armature rigged (still trying to figure that out) I'm going to use this as a reference for drawing. :)
